Harper Smith was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 1982. She has always been a hometown girl with nothing but love for farm animals and the simple life. Her photography reflects the beauty of imperfection and simplicity. Her father, a journalist, and her mother an art teacher, combined their inspirations and influenced Harper’s passion for telling stories visually with her camera. After graduating with a BA in Photojournalism from the University of Missouri, Harper worked with numerous news publications and finally decided that fashion and fine art were her calling. She shot her first editorial on a whim, and after it got published by a local LA magazine, her commercial work began to flood in.

Harper’s editorial work and commercial demands have increased as she has established herself as an on-the-fly shooter, tying in natural landscape and dreamy scenarios...creating an alluring world of the American desert and the Los Angeles free spirit.

She now lives in Topanga Canyon, CA with her pug Stewie, labrador Remington, horse named Che and goat named Gertie.
